Abstract:
Over the years management of educational institution has always been a national issue. The effectiveness/efficiency level of any educational setting depends to some extent on the proper utilization of human and material resources and application of the right technology towards achievement of set goals. Information and communication technology (ICT) has become an indispensable tool for effective management and realization of educational goals. This paper examines the level of application of ICT in educational management at the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Nigeria. Questionnaires were drawn and distributed to the staff of the institution, data from the questionnaires were analyzed and results show that due to the application of ICT in various operational sections of the institution, there is significant improvement in service delivery and general management of the institution. However, much still need to be done to be able to achieve greater feat in the area of educational management in the institution. Appropriate recommendations are made as a way forward towards attaining sufficient level in the utilization of ICT in educational management.

Abstract:
There has been out-cry nationwide about the persistent decline in the quality of our education in Nigeria an indication that the current teaching and learning approaches in use in our institutions have failed. The need to improve the quality of computer science education currently imparted in our Education system has therefore become imperative. Based on our findings, a mathematical model Web-based Virtual Classroom was developed to provide a viable medium through which sound ICT education can be offered by our colleges of education that can carter for varieties of learners - those who are unable to attend school due to treatment for chronic illnesses; who are at risk for educational failure due to intermittent school attendance. Our system is designed based on active learning approach that adopts blended learning theory (ConstructivistCognivist learning approach), incorporating e-pedagogy that supports varied learning styles and learning strategies through fostering of collaboration among participants in the web-based Virtual learning environment. Our system has an architecture composed of backend engine (based on MySQL server database engine) on Apache web server and a frontend engine. The logical design is modeled with the UML; the application is implemented using the PHP programming language.

Abstract:
Some students live in other parts of the country (Nigeria) or even in other countries, and some are gainfully employed, some are hospitalized due to illness and some are physically challenged. For all these persons distance education and web-based learning (e.g VCS) may offer interesting opportunities and democratic advantages. The modern web technology provides enabling environment for students to explore knowledge as well as the communication convenience for them to interact. Web-based learning approach has come to stay. It not only has dealt with standard but also classroom-based environment. This learning approach has raised the stake on how well the benefits of collaborative learning will be properly harnessed in a web-based environment. Web-based Virtual Classroom System (VCS) provides the platform or structure for effective collaborative learning through which quality knowledge in various forms and approaches can be gained. To overcome some of these limitations outlined above, we propose to develop a “Mathematical model Web-based Virtual Classroom system” based on active learning approach. Various virtual classroom systems exist quite alright, to date there is no standard framework or model to guide developers of such systems. Our model is therefore intended to provide the much needed framework for virtual classroom system developers. The task of this research is to examine current aspects of web-based learning environment (Virtual classrooms) in use and identify the areas for improvement and then overall goal being; to according to our requirements, develop a mathematical model web-based virtual classroom system (VCS) which will emerge as a viable tool through which collaborative learning and quality knowledge in various ways and approaches can be gained. Abstract:

The number of students enrolling in various academic programs in our tertiary institutions has continued to grow without a proportionate improvement in learning infrastructure. A learning environment model that provides equal opportunities for all categories of learners in our tertiary institutions irrespective of their learning style, disposition and aptitude has therefore become inevitable. Our system model is developed based on e-pedagogy with enhanced features for collaboration among participants (instructors and students) in a web-based learning environment. Instructor, course, student and learning performance formed the major objects used in developing our system model. Features of our system model include course outline, presentation, resources, assessment/opinion poll, chat, hands-up, students’ list, course info, and collaborate, all harnessed to achieve experiential learning among students

Abstract:
The population of students all over the world is growing without a proportionate increase in teaching/learning resources/infrastructure. There is also much quest for learning in an environment that provides equal opportunities to all learners. The need to provide an equal opportunity learning environment that will hitherto improve the system of education globally has therefore become imperative. Based on our findings, a mathematical model Web-based Virtual Classroom system (WebVCS) was developed to provide a viable medium through which sound education can be offered in tertiary institutions that can carter for varieties of learners irrespective of their abilities, dispositions and geographical locations. Our system model is developed based on active learning approach that adopts blended learning theory (Constructivist-Cognivist learning approach), incorporating e-pedagogy that supports collaboration among participants in the web-based Virtual learning environment. The key objects used in creating the WebVCS model are: Courses, Students, Instructors and Learning performances. Our system model sets a framework for developers of virtual classrooms and successful implementation of the model leads to students learning by interacting with their peers resulting in the construction of knowledge.

Abstract:

Due to the rate of societal malaise - drug addiction, examination malpractices, prostitution, drop-outs in our tertiary institutions today which have hampered effective learning, one is forced to look for an alternative way of reducing societal problems through effective career counseling systems. online career counseling system has emerged as a viable alternative to conventional counseling systems. There are limitations to the existing career counseling approaches in Nigeria. To address these shortcomings, we have developed an online career counseling system suitable for deployment in any system connected to a network (intranet, internet). some existing web-based counseling systems were examined considering their applicability and limitations to our perculiar environment. Based on our findings, a mathematical model online career counseling system (COCS) using fuzzy logic and based on the trait-and-factor approach of counseling was developed to provide career counseling to candidates on the suitability or otherwise of their chosen careers. The model was finally implemented as a web-based system using Apache as a web server, PHP as the server-side scripting language, HTML as the client-side srcipting language and MySQL as the relational database
